The International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR) presents its compliments to the Forestry Research Institute of Ghana-FORIG and has the honour to have their Director General of INBAR, Ambassador Ali S. Mchumo paying a familiarization visit to CSIR-FORIG campus.
He was warmly received by the Director of CSIR-FORIG, Prof. Daniel A. Ofori. Also present at the
meeting were Dr Emmanuel Ebanyenle (Head, Wood Industry and Utilization Division), Dr. Gloria D. Djagbletey (Head, Forest and Climate Change Division) and Mr. Emmanuel Minkah (Scientific Secretary). Prof. Ofori welcomed Ambassador Ali S. Mchumo and his team from INBAR West African Regional Office which included Mr. Ernest Nti Acheampong (Director, INBAR West Africa Regional Office), Mr. Michael Kwaku (Ghana National Coordinator, INBAR) and Mr. Daniel Kweitsu Obloni (Communication officer for West Africa Regional Office)
Ambassador Ali S. Mchumo made it clear that, he came on familiarization tour to Ghana since his ascension to the position of Director General of INBAR, that was April 2019. He has heard a lot about CSIR-FORIG’s cordial working relationship with INBAR and he thinks that, it is a good opportunity to strengthen the cooperation between INBAR and CSIR-FORIG with a visit.
Prof Ofori was also happy to hear that from Ambassador Ali S. Mchumo and followed it up with a presentation of CSIR-FORIG. In the presentation, he gave a belief history of the institute, the vision, mission and core values of CSIR-FORIG. He further indicated to the INBAR team the core research areas of the institute which includes collaborative works between INBAR and CSIR-FORIG on Bamboo nursery and propagation in Mesewam, Bambusetum in Bobiri Forest Reserve.
After the presentation, there was a healthy discussion between INBAR team and CSIR-FORIG. This discussion focused on fostering a healthy relationship and building a stronger research collaboration between the two organizations.
